WHAT'S NEW AT THE INSTITUTE:
* Literacy Begins at Home: Read About Latino Dads Who Are Making a
Difference

Colorín Colorado , the award-winning, bilingual website for families and
educators of English Language Learners, salutes fathers who are helping
their children become readers. The website, funded in part by a grant from
the National Institute for Literacy, features interviews with four dads
(Jorge, Alejandro, Sergio, and Celestino) about ways that fathers can
encourage children to read. These interviews were originally published in
the Institute's
<http://dev.nifl.gov/partnershipforreading/publications/pdf/Dads_Playbook.pd
f> Dad's Playbook: Coaching Kids to Read. Colorín Colorado is an
educational initiative of WETA, the flagship public television and radio
station in the nation's capital. The name "Colorín Colorado" comes from a
playful phrase that is often said at the end of stories in Spanish-speaking
countries. Loosely translated, the phrase is similar to "...and that's the
end of the story!" or "...they lived happily ever after." The interviews are
available in <http://www.colorincolorado.org/articulo/24597> Spanish and in
<http://www.colorincolorado.org/article/24594> English. To read or to order
copies of Dad's Playbook, visit <http://www.nifl.gov/> www.nifl.gov and
