Subject: Re: [FamilyLiteracy] Reminder: Online Professional
Development Opportunity

Will there be any family literacy professional development courses in
the near
future. I will be teaching a family lit/basic ed class in the summer
and would
like a refresher course.

Thanks,

Jackie Hamlett

Jackie,

Let me suggest a few possibilities from the National Center for
Family Literacy (NCFL).

NCFL offers a variety of professional development opportunities
including Foundations in Family Literacy which provides an overview
of family literacy. To see a schedule of upcoming trainings, visit
www.famlit.org

Verizon Literacy Campus (VLC) at www.literacycampus.org offers a
wide range of free online courses, including Family Literacy: The
Intergenerational Approach to Learning.

Penn State’s Goodling Certificate in Family Literacy is another
professional development opportunity you might check into. The
Certificate is an online 15-credit program offering an Introduction
to Family Literacy course as well as courses in children’s education,
adult literacy and parent involvement. Visit www.worldcampus.psu.edu/
wc/familylit to learn more about course offerings. The new semester
begins January 18, 2006.

NCFL’s annual Pre-conference and National Conference are good sources
of PD opportunities. The Pre-conference is set for March 17 and 18,
2006, with the conference following on March 19 – 21. They will take
place in Louisville, KY. For more information, visit www.famlit.org
and click on the conference icon.

If you know of other family literacy professional development
opportunities Jackie and others might take advantage of, please let
us hear from you.
