Dear Family Literacy Colleagues,
Do you have a student you would like to nominate to be a speaker at the
17th Annual National Conference on Family Literacy? If so, nominations
are being accepted until January 10, 2008.
The National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) will select four students
each of whom will be featured during a Conference general session, which
has an audience of 1,200 - 1,500 people. Students give a short speech
(10 - 15 minutes) about their experiences--both the challenges and the
triumphs. These are usually the most inspirational moments of the
Conference and certainly provide the audience with a reminder of why
their work is so important.
To be accepted as a student speaker, the student must:
* Have attended a four-component family literacy program for at
least 1 - 2 years
* Have accomplished goals in adult education and parenting
* Have already spoken to groups of 50 -100 (GED graduation for
instance)
* Be fluent in English
* Be willing to travel to the Conference in Louisville, Kentucky,
and arrive by Sunday, March 30, 2008
* Be available to participate in a rehearsal on Sunday, March 30,
2008
* Have the support of his/her program in writing and perfecting
the speech
Student speakers receive one free conference registration, a food
stipend, and free hotel accommodations for the duration of the
Conference. NCFL also will pay their travel to the conference.
If you have a student that meets the criteria, please submit the
application online by January 10, 2008. To apply, go to
