The National Writing Project newsletter has an announcement for an early literacy activity book, that is in both Spanish and English and that encourages preschool-age children to express their ideas about themselves, their families and the places they live. The announcement came out in June, so some of you may have received copies already.
The book, published collaboratively by the National Writing Project in conjunction with the College Board's National Commission on Writing <http://www.writingcommission.org/> and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) <http://www.rif.org/> , was to be distributed last summer. The first printing of 50,000 copies of Our Book by Us!/Nuestro Libro ¡Hecho por Nosotros! was distributed through NWP sites and to children in Head Start <http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ohs/> and other early learning programs served by RIF. Each of NWP's 200 sites was scheduled to receive five copies and sites may request up to 40 additional copies <mailto:siteresources at nwp.org> . The books are environmentally friendly, printed with soy ink on recycled paper. You also may download an electronic version (PDF) <http://www.nwp.org/cs/public/download/nwp_file/10566/Our_Book_by_Us.pdf?x-r=pcfile_d> .
Please note the statement on the Web page that says, "For questions about how to order this book or how to use it, please contact us at siteresources at nwp.org <mailto:siteresources at nwp.org> ." You might want to check before printing multiple copies for use in your programs or to give to families.
Here is the Web site. Go take a look.
