Hello,
One of Literacy Works' member agencies works with parents and children at
community schools in Chicago. This agency wishes to create "resource-rich
environments" in the parent rooms at Chicago Public Schools that serve kids
from Preschool (age 3) through school-age.
I've shared a few ideas of my own with this agency, and now I'd like to ask
folks on the NIFL-Fam list. Do you have any specific parent-resource
suggestions for parent rooms?
Here is a quote from the agency:
"One of our challenges with ordering appropriate materials is finding
relevant and rich books/resources/media/etc. for parents with literacy
challenges. We were looking to expand the adult section of the parent
library to include resources that touched on: at home learning, social
emotional development (their child’s and their own), health and nutrition,
working with your child’s school, etc.
"Would you happen to know of a resource that could point me in the right
direction in looking for these kinds of resources? Or would you know some
strategies that could help in this situation? Any thoughts you could share
would be wonderful."
Thanks for any suggestions you can share for this agency. Suggestions for
resources in both English and Spanish would be welcome.
Thanks!
Betsy
