Gail and Barb,

This is hopeful news! I hope it renews the Seamans belief that there just has to be somebody out there besides practitioners serving families who really give a hoot about family literacy.  Your organization' commitment to exploring the notion of filling the gap should also serve all of us as a reminder that such a resource really is a "use it or lose it" proposition. I for one pledge my personal support in being more forthcoming with signing on and sharing insights and resources. To start, we've developed two different systems for local and state program evaluation in Missouri and Kentucky through LIFT. We'll be happy to share with anyone interested. (Visit http://lift-missouri.org.)  We will upload our most recent evaluation templates shortly.

Again, Barb, Gail, Don, Ann and others, like old sailors, we've been Around the Horn aboard the good ship FamLit. It's a tough place to sail. Rounding the Horn is not about racing or cruising. It's about endurance. We've learned a lot together, including, it's important to keep our focus on the destination. For our field, it's not just the journey - it's the outcomes that count most to our funding streams and to the families we serve.

Call me, Feelin' Better.

NCFL and the Goodling
Institute are discussing the possibility of sponsoring a family literacy
electronic discussion list to fill the gap left by the loss of the NIFL's family
literacy list.
