Vanderbilt University is making a major commitment to patient education
throughout the medical center. We seek a full-time Program Director for
Patient Education/Health Literacy at the hospital and clinics. Please

Minimum of a Master's Degree with at least 5 years of related experience
required. Candidates must have demonstrated success in the patient
education and health literacy field.
Key Functions:
The Director of Patient Education and Health Literacy is responsible for
leading the coordination of patient education content and materials, and
the implementation of health literacy standards for Vanderbilt
University Hospital and the Vanderbilt Clinics.
* Establishing a structure with medical leadership by which
patient education materials are reviewed for clinical appropriateness.
* Developing infrastructure for inventory control and purchasing
of educational materials.
* Reviewing current patient education materials in conjunction
with clinic management. Establishing a replacement plan for materials
supplied by vendors.
* Establishing and administrating policies/procedures related to
patient education on E-docs. Collaborating with Informatics to establish
technical control of E-docs patient education materials.
* Establishing and operating a Health Information Center centrally
on campus. Developing strategic plan and budget.
* Developing metrics to measure success of the Health Information
Center and health literacy initiatives.
* Developing potential revenue producing, VUMC branded patient
education materials.
* Collaborating with various consumer groups such as the Patient
and Family Advisory Council on health literacy reviews.
* Developing strategic and operational partnerships across the
medical center to develop and support new patient education initiatives.
